Category: Information

On Thursday, 12 March, 2015 the event started with the greetings from the Rector of KSPU Oleg Semenyuk and the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Oleksandr Bilous, who welcomed the participants and congratulated them on proceeding to the Semi-Final. Every semi-finalist made great efforts to come to that stage of the competition.

The Semi-Final started with debate games. The participants were divided into 2 groups. Each group consisted of 6 people: 3 representatives of proposition, 3- of opposition. Five possible topics for debates were announced in advance for participants to have time for thorough preparation. But the actual topic for the game was chosen from five possible just at the Semi-Final. The first group were to speak on the theme “This House believes that the European Union and the USA should have done more to stop war in Ukraine”. The second group debated “This House believes that to be healthy you should go vegetarian”The audience was completely involved in the debate games. While debate the speakers were asked many questions from the question team, judges and the audience.

After debating students had a chance to present their impromptu speeches. Every participant chose a different topic and had 10 minutes for the preparation. The participants were aimed to speak not more than 3 minutes. During the Semi-Final most of the participants demonstrated excellent skills of debating and public speaking, therefore it was rather difficult for the adjudicators to choose the finalists.

On Friday, 13 March the names of 8 finalists were announced. They were: Bezzadina Dariia, Ilchenko Kateryna, Leonovetz Lyubov, Maiba Diana, Rybchenko Dariia, Scorohod Yuliia, Shevchuk Dariia and Volkova Olesya. At the Final the participants delivered their prepared speeches, inspired by the general theme“Culture is Not a Luxury, But a Necessity”.Speakers interpreted the theme in various ways for 5 minutes.

Dariia Bezzadina, a student of Foreign Languages Department of KSPU, with her speech “Hunger Games” won the National Public Speaking Competition 2015.
