Category: Information

On the 23d of April 2015 Shakespeare Competition was held in the Assembly Hall of Kirovograd State Pedagogical University. The competition, organized by the ESU Ukraine, has taken place for the second time. Shakespeare Competition is dedicated to the memory of a great English writer William Shakespeare and is held on his birthday, which is also the UN English Language Day.

More than forty participants took part in the competition. They were students of Kirovograd State Pedagogical University, Kirovograd Flight Academy, Kirovograd Construction College, Medical College and pupils from Kirovograd secondary schools. This year the participants were not allowed to wear costumes or use props of any kind, including music accompaniment, jewelry, items of clothing. Therefore, the task for them was to inspire and persuade the audience and jury purely by their art of Shakespearean declamation. A huge variety of Shakespeare’s sonnets were presented. The audience met all the participants warmly with the round of applause for each of them.  The atmosphere of the event was artistic and very friendly.

All the participants did a great job, having expressed  Shakespeare’s words with understanding, feeling and clarity, they brought the timeless works of Shakespeare to life. However, only four participants became the winners. Eugen Ivanchenko and Anna Gulak shared the 3d place, Olesia Volkova took the second award. And the winner of the Shakespeare Competition 2015 was the 2nd year student of KSPU Karina Kolesnik. The finalists were awarded with the diplomas from the ESU Ukraine and presents from Cambridge University Press.

The competition is gaining its popularity and developing with newcomers. Thanks to the efforts of all the organizers and participants it has succeeded for the second time.  Through reciting and active listening to Shakespeare’s sonnets everybody had a great opportunity to embrace the world of English literature and to honour the memory of the greatest writer in the English language William Shakespeare.
