The audience met all the participants warmly with the round of applause for each of them.  The atmosphere of the event was artistic and very friendly.

All the participants did a great job, having expressed  Shakespeare’s words with understanding, feeling and clarity, they brought the timeless works of Shakespeare to life. However, only four participants became the winners. Eugen Ivanchenko and Anna Gulak shared the 3d place, Olesia Volkova took the second award. And the winner of the Shakespeare Competition 2015 was the 2nd year student of KSPU Karina Kolesnik. The finalists were awarded with the diplomas from the ESU Ukraine and presents from Cambridge University Press.

The competition is gaining its popularity and developing with newcomers. Thanks to the efforts of all the organizers and participants it has succeeded for the second time.  Through reciting and active listening to Shakespeare’s sonnets everybody had a great opportunity to embrace the world of English literature and to honour the memory of the greatest writer in the English language William Shakespeare.

The English-Speaking Union Ukraine has great pleasure in announcing the National Essay Writing Competition 2015 “My Magna Carta”.

Magna Carta is one of the most famous documents in the world. Originally issued by King John of England as a practical solution to the political crisis he faced in 1215, Magna Carta established for the first time the principle that everybody, including the king, was subject to the law. Although nearly a third of the text was deleted or substantially rewritten within ten years, and almost all the clauses have been repealed in modern times, Magna Carta remains a cornerstone of the British constitution. There remain four copies of the original Magna Carta; one of which is located in Lincoln cathedral, one is in Salisbury Cathedral, and two are in the British Library in London.
